Day 1: We fly out of Miami and arrive in Quito, Ecuador late in the evening. Endure two hour drive before relaxing in 5-star Hilton!
Day 2: Today we will tour the city of Quito! I’m excited to see local and historical landmarks, and stand in both Hemispheres at once before boarding the bus to Otavalo.
Day 3: Tuesday, we will visit South America’s most prominent market run by Otavaleno Indians. My experiences bargaining in marketplaces usually end in me getting chased out of shops, so it should be an adventure as always. Next we will visit Cotacachi and the Peguche waterfall. We end the day relaxing in our hotel’s private hot springs in Papallacta.
Day 4: TODAY IS THE DAY! We board canoes to take us deep into the heart of the Amazon.
Day 5: The itinerary for Thursday includes hiking along the Napo River through the rainforest, a zipline tour, and riding down the crocodile/piranha infested Amazon on a homemade log raft.
Day 6: Today we will tour Ecuador’s infamous waterfall, El Pailon del Diablo, and then continue to Banos. I am thrilled to have a free day here, as Banos is considered Ecuador’s adventure capital.
Day 7: On Saturday, we will tour an ancient hacienda and visit a rose plantation. Evening plans to be determined…
Day 8: An entire free day in Quito!
Day 9: We return to the airport at midnight and arrive back in the US at 5:00AM.
